This study was conducted to assess the potential environmental impacts of single-use face masks in South Korea during COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, about 35,382 tons of medical waste was generated in Korea due to the COVID-19 pandemic, an increase of about 21 times compared to about 1,647 tons during the 2015 MERS outbreak. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of nature-based solutions (NBS) as carbon sinks by estimating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and absorption through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). The study focused on a designated area within the Han Gang River water source management region, calculating GHG emissions and absorption during the implementation of NbS, and deriving the carbon payback period. This study aims to analyze global research trends in the life cycle assessment (LCA) of service products. Using the Scopus database, we searched for LCA research published from 1970 to 2024 based on keywords, titles, and abstracts. A total of 23,970 records were obtained, of which 90.67% were published from 2010 to 2024, showing a significant increase across various fields during this period, with a CAGR of 13.6%.
